Hazrat Syed Shah Rushaid Ali Al-Qadri

The holy Shrine Mazaar sharif of Syedena Hazrat Syed Shah Rushaid Ali Al Qadri(r.a.) in Midnapore known as Rauza-e-Aqdas....
The 12th May 1924 marked the birth of an uplifterof humanity......a messiah....a soothsayer and the temporal head of the sufi saints of his time .At the time of his birth instead of crying as babies do he uttered repeatedly "Allah" "Allah".It was a clear indication that the new born was destined to be the quintessence of spiritual eminence and was to save swarms of erring humanity from damnation .Apprised of this miracle  his holy father Syedana Hazrat Irshad Ali Al Qadri (r.a.)took the baby on his lap and remarked ,"Son of a fakir,he is himself a fakir and the best amongst my progeny".
Put on the path of asceticism and self-mortification the child who was to uphold the banner of the Qadri Order in due course, rose to great spiritual heights. The spiritual influence of his august father and the inherent excellencies of the family distinguished him from others.
His features were similar to those of his holy grandfather ,Syedana Hazrat Syed Shah Murshed Ali Al Qadri(a.s.).His life was resplendent with his profound generosity and humility. He would often indulge in hidden charity,in truth many a family lived only through him,his  generous gifts of cash and kind.
From early childhood he would shun games and devote most of his time to his lessons and the service of his parents. The lessons which he memorised in a day took others weeks to memorise. His love and respect for parents was proverbial. It has apparently become a byword of his disciples.Touching his mother's feet with his eyes was a cherished habit he never neglected this token of devotion after her demise he was in deep anguish and sorrow.
An unassailable authority on Hadith,Tafseer and Fikah,he would solve problems having wheels within wheels in a jiffy. He would take things easy and would effect compromises between warring person in a trice.Exceedingly intelligent and retentive,he gained command over the Arabic philology and etymology. He did master Persian and Urdu.He authored numerous poems in Urdu and Persian in which he excelled. The charm of cadence, the style and eloquence betray the class. Most of his fine Odes and hymns which he composed in his teens have met with the commendation of a coterie of highly reputed poets. His articles have appeared in different Urdu and Arabic magazines.
It would form an excrescence on this beautiful treatise of the late Justice, were I to touch the barbarities unleashed by his close relations on him.Hence I would prefer shirking the onus for the present. The dome of his mausoleum which stands a little away from his ancestral burial ground however smacks of the injustice done to him.as was the case with Hazrat Imam Hasan(a.s.) the enemies of his holiness toeing the footprints of Muaviyah and Merwan stopped his burial in the family burial ground. Miracles were there plenty performed in his life but these always done with the intention of alleviating distress ; never with the slightest intention of acquiring fame. Not only in his life time but even after his wesaal sharif (demise) people have benefited  by him. Syedena Hazrat Rushaid Ali   (r.a.) possessed a very pleasant demeanour and an extreamly peace loving disposition. His manner of speech was so pleasing that when he would talk it seemed as if peals fell from his mouth.A word of solace from him brought about a haven of refuge to the afflicted and his healing touch would do away  with distress.People who left no stone unturned in their endeavours to harm him, turned to him at the fag end of their lives pleading for mercy. He not only pardoned them in such a manner that they would be rendered ashamed at the treatment meted out to them. His watchword being 'forgive and forget', he urged people to pardon excesses of others. His demeanor has left an indelible imprint on the minds of his disciples and devotees.

Inside view of Rauza-e-Aqdas
He intensely disliked self-praise and would admonish people who tried to sing his praises. If the miracles performed by him were ever attributed to him, he would ascribe them to his illustrious ancestors. He would often be heard saying :"It was not due to me but it was due to the spiritual powers of my august father".Many a times his feats of supernatural phenomena were felt by people but they were ordered not to speak about it.Walis do not want popularity and keep away from pomp and splendour and all sorts of ostentations.
His holiness Hazrat Syedena Syed Shah Rushaid Ali Al-Qadri (a.s.) passed away on the 16th of December 1975 A.D. ,Zillhaj 121395 A.H.,Aggrahayan 28,1382 at about 12.......19 a.m. leaving behind kindred, disciples, devotees, admirers and votaries in an agonised lament. He was succeeded by six sons   Hazrat Syed Shah Marshad Ali Al Qadri (r.a.),   Hazrat Syed Shah Marashid Ali Al Qadri(r.a.) , Hazrat Syed Shah Morashshid Ali Al Qadri,Hazrat Syed Shah Tarsheed Ali Al Qadri, Hazrat Syed Shah Marshood Ali Al Qadri ,Hazrat Syed Shah Rashadat Ali Al Qadri and five daughters.I would like to like to conclude this with the following couplet of Hazrat Hafiz (r.a.)
Bar zaminay kay neshaney kafay payay tu buwad,
         Salha sajda-e-sahebnazaran khahad bood.
Translation-: For years it would be a place of obeisance for seers, that is, the ground which will bear the trace of thy footprint......

Mowla Pak

Mazar sharif of His Holiness Hazrat Syed Shah Murshed Ali Al Qadri (a.s.) Mowlapak...
When Allah so desires he sends his beloved, ordained with attribute and honour and exaltation and divine knowledge .It is the holy grace of the creator that such personalities enrich our world with their august presence.Towards the late sixties of the nineteenth century began the spiritual reign of a great saint ,the noblest of his time. He was Syedana-o-Mowlana Hazrat Syed Shah Ali Abdul Qader Shamsul Qadri (a.s.)  also known as Syed Shah Murshed Ali Al Qadri or Mowla Pak. He was born in the town of Midnapore on the night of 27th ramzan1268 Hijri which corresponded with 16th July 1852 A.D.His youngest brother Hazrat Syed Shah Wali Murshed Al Qadri(a.s.) has made the following observations in his book, titled  "Tahrees-e-Mutabaate-Wali Murshed"; "His holiness, the gracious and pious Sajjadanashin of the Qadri Order, the custodian of divine secrets and the exponent of niceties of Shariat and Tariqat, the perennial faster and the night long worshiper (of Allah) is Mowlana Syed Shah Murshed Ali Al Qadri(.a.s.)" ....

He was under the tutelage of is illustrious father his Holiness Syedana Hazrat Syed Shah Mehre Ali Al Qadri (a.s.).From his childhood, the greatness of values, virtues, manners, conduct and behaviour were emphasized by his noble teacher and preacher. The intelligence and sagacity during his childhood was such that whatever he read or heard, was memorized and this had a lasting impression on his mind and the inward eyes. Before his Wesal (union with the creator) his illustrious father and pir-o-Murshed granted permission of guardianship to his able son and disciple Hazrat Syed Murshed Ali Al Qadri(a.s.) and put him on the citadel and pinnacle of the Qadri Order he was made the Sajjadanashin at the early age of sixteen..

Huzoor Mowla Pak was a great lover of books and was extreamly well versed in religious sciences and had a complete command over Arabic,Persian and Urdu language and literature, with eloquence in Persian style of writing and elocution. He wrote poems based on sufi principle and thoughts. His poetic compilation known as "Diwaan-e-Hazrat-e-Jamaal" bears eulogies dedicated to our holy Prophet(p.b.u.h.) and to Hazrat Ghaus-ul-Azam(a.s.).He had a sweet disposition and an absorbing all embracing and unbounded love for all.He felt the joys and woes of others as though they were his own.His disciples surrendered themselves entirely to him and laid bare the most hidden secrets of their hearts to him.His love was as wide as the universe itself and as infinite. He also worked countless miracles for his disciples .Mowla pak's followers loved him so dearly that no one could ever think that he would ever depart from them.At last when he announced the date of his Wesal sharif, there was a genuine grief in every heart and there was a sense of dark despair everywhere. He said even after passing away he would look after the welfare of his disciples .
The Wesal sharif was a glorious one. There was a cheerful and confident eagerness for union with eternal beloved .At about two 0' clock in the morning he asked his khadim(servant) to bring his Kafan Shariif (winding sheet) which he kept ready with him.He then gave the necessary instructions for the last solemn rites.A few minutes later the final union with the Beloved took place. The holy remains were interned in a beautiful Mazar Sharif in Midnapore beside the sacred tombs of his parents. He was succeeded in the spiritual line of descent by his son Syedana Hazrat Syed Shah Irshaad Ali Al Qadri(a.s.) who became the next Sajjadanashin....

The QADRI ORDER

In  the name of Allah, the most compassionate and merciful .

Salutations and benedictions upon the Holy Prophet and his descendants and upon the exalted and illustrious Hazrat Syedena Gaus-ul-Azam and his progeny.

The Qadri Order has won its popularity for its tolerant attitude and concern for the welfare of the people .Seeking as it does to propagate the teachings of  Hazrat Gaus-ul Azam, the order is firmly based on the holy Quran and Hadith. When we look into the contribution of the Qadri Order particularly in Bengal we are simply amazed by the very simplicity, dedication, achievement and purity of this foremost order. The tremendous impact of the Qadri order in Bengal in terms of spiritual purification and literary endeavors  of the illustrious  saints in writing eulogies, epitaphs, elegies is beyond our comprehension. Love and affection for all, irrespective of ones identity are unique characteristics  and traits of this Order.

The Qadri Order is named after Huzur Gaus-ul-Azam, His holiness  Hazrat  Syedana    Abu Mohammad Muhyuddin Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani {1077-1166} (alaihis salam) who figures prominently in Islamic spiritual history. For the first fifty years  after his Wesaal or holy  demise, there was no formal organization to speak of, however his teachings strongly influenced the thinking and conduct  of a considerable number of Muslims during his lifetime. Later on, his disciples  and followers perpetuated his teachings and saw to their dissemination. He eventually came to be regarded as a great saint endowed with  miraculous powers, and an embodiment of perfection Hazrat Syedana Shaykh Abdul Qadir had a highly persuasive way of encouraging people to distance themselves from an obsession with material things and turn instead   to matters of the spirit. Having awakened the spiritual side of their nature,   he dedicated himself to instilling in them a profound reverence for moral  and spiritual values. His religiosity and earnestness made a great impression  on men who flocked to his side. He asked his followers to maintain the same   strict standard of adherence to all the ramifications of Islamic Law, or shariah,   as he did himself, for he looked upon the shariah as the mainspring of all   spiritual progress. Insistence upon this point not only forged a bond between  the jurists and the mystics (Sufis), but also ensured that there would be a   just equilibrium between the varying interpretations of the letter and the   spirit of the Quran.  In his works and sermons, Hazrat Syedana Abdul Qadir Jilani (a.s.) makes frequent mention   of Imam Ahmad ibn Hambal (d. 855), and on many issues of religious importance, his stance was certainly influenced by his connection with the Hambali School of Islamic jurisprudence. In fact, he made fiqh (jurisprudence) and tasawwuf (mysticism) complementary to each other, thus bringing jurists and mystics together. In his elaborations on mysticism, he was always careful to keep all legal facets in view and, conversely, in explaining the principles of the law, he emphasized their spiritual implications.

Hazrat  Hazrat Ghausul Azam (the Greatest Spiritual Helper) is considered the 'The Greatest Saint of All Time'. In the most profound realm of Sufi tradition, he is said to have declared on the command of Allah, 'My foot is on the shoulder/neck of all Saints of Allah'. Hazrat Ghausul Azam is a direct descendant of Hazrat Imam Hasan Mujtaba (a.s.) on his father's side and of Hazrat Imam Hussain  (a.s.) on his mother's side and he is the originator and head of the Qaderiyya Sufi Order. But since Hazrat Ghausul Azam is recognized as the Greatest Saint of all time, by extension, he is the Spiritual Head of all the Sufi Orders that have ever existed.

Hazrat Ghausul Azam is said to have fathered 49 children all of whom became great saints. Among the more famous of his sons was his first son, Hazrat Syedana Syed Shah Abdul Wahab  Al Qadri Al Jilani (a.s.), and his third son, Hazrat Syedana Syed Shah Abdul Razzak Al Jilani (a.s.). Many of the descendants of Hazrat Ghausul Azam subsequently reached many parts of the world and propagated the Qadri  Sufi Order. Although, other branches of the family of Hazrat Ghausul Azam had reached India before, a great Saint, Hazrat Syed Shah Abdullah Al Jili (AS), directly descended from Hazrat Syed Shah Abdul Razzak (a.s.) came by sea to Bengal, from Hama, Syria, in 1776, accompanied by his 4 sons and 1 grandson and settled in a place called Mangal Court, Burdwan in Bengal. He returned back soon afterward but left behind 2 sons and the grandson among the people of Bengal as a Mercy of the Almighty to them. Thereafter, succeeding generations of Saints have regenerated the faith and glory of Islam through their total devotion to the will of the Almighty, enduring affection for creation and mankind, and their unique charisma of character.

The Qadri Way

LIVE LIFE THE QADRI WAY

As-Salaam-o-Alaiykum..!

In the name of Allah, the most beneficent and  the most merciful ,I would like to begin  my first blog .Though I am young and inexperienced and it is my first attempt , but I am glad that the almighty has chosen this task for me . The purpose of this blog is to spread the message of Hazrat Sayyedina-wa-Maulana "ABU-MUHAMMAD-MOHIYUDDEEN SHAYKH ABDUL QADIR JILANI"(a.s), well known as Hazrat "GHAUS-UL-AZAM"(a.s). I am Syeda Nada Ali Al-Qadri d/o Hazrat SYED SHAH TARSHEED ALI AL-QADRI and  I belong to the Qadri Order or Silsila-e-Qaderiyya of Huzur GHAUS-UL-AZAM (a.s) of Baghdad, Iraq. My father Hazrat SYED SHAH TARSHEED ALI AL-QADRI  is the fourth son of his holiness  Sayyedena Hazrat SYED SHAH RUSHAID AL AL-QADRI (r.a) also known as the Pir-Sahab of Taltala. My grand-father and my Pir-o-murshed his holiness Sayyedena Hazrat SYED SHAH RUSHAID ALI AL-QADRI (a.s.) is the direct descendant and the 21st Sajjaada-Nasheen (successor) of the Qadri Order or  Silsila-e-Qaderiyya. Coming  from this Qadri family and Sufi household it is our duty to spread the message of Hazrat GHAUS-UL-AZAM (a.s) and to live life the Qadri way that is  to serve humanity through the doctrines of  Hazrat  SHAYKH ABDUL QADIR JILANI (a.s.).

We are here past two centuries and our ancestors came here in 1180 A.H. from Hama (now in Syria) ,they were originally from Baghdad,Iraq. Our ancestor  Sayyedena Hazrat SYED ABDULLAH AL JILI (a.s.) arrived in Bengal in 1180 A.H. along with his four sons Sayyedena Hazrat SYED ZAKIR ALI AL QADRI(a.s.),Sayyedena Hazrat SYED RAUSHAN ALI AL QADRI (a.s.),Sayyedena Hazrat SYED GOLAM HUSSAIN AL QADRI(a.s.) and Sayyedena Hazrat SYED RAJAB ALI AL QADRI (a.s.) acompanied by the ladies and children of their family .Hazrat  Syed  Abdullah Al Jili (a.s.) along with his two sons Hazrat Syed Golam Hussain and Hazrat Syed Rajab Ali along with some of the ladies of the family returned to Baghdad however the other two sons Hazrat Zakir Ali and Hazrat Raushan Ali remained in Bengal propagating the Qadri Sufi Order and spreading Islam throughout Bengal .Thus they laid the foundations of Qadri Order in Bengal and their descendants are spreading the Qadri Order till today.

As this blog deals with the life of Hazrat Gaus-ul-Azam who was the greatest of all Sufi saints,it is necessary to say a word about Sufism.Sufism or Islamic mysticism originated in Iraq in the 8th century A.C. From Iraq it spread to Iran,Syria,Egypt,India and other places. The Sufi saints did a great service to Islam. Apart from re-strengthening the faith of Muslims, they carried the torch of Islam far and wide , Islam was spread to different parts of the world by Sufi saints and not by soldiers. Sufism is defined as knowledge of God obtained through asceticism, piety, remembrance (zikr) and the intense love of God. Sufism is purely based on the Quran and Hadith.
